The Uncomfortable Decision: Why It's Okay to Exclude Someone from Your Wedding

Planning a wedding is a joyous occasion, filled with excitement and anticipation. However, it can also bring about tough decisions, including whether to exclude certain individuals from the guest list. One of the most sensitive decisions a couple may face is the choice to ask someone not to attend their wedding. While it might seem harsh, there are valid reasons why it's okay to make this tough call.

  1. Limited Space and Budget: Wedding planning often comes with constraints, both in terms of space and budget. Venues have capacity limits, and staying within a predetermined budget is crucial for many couples. In such cases, making the difficult decision to limit the guest list becomes a practical necessity.

  2. Strained Relationships: Not all relationships are smooth sailing, and sometimes, inviting certain individuals can lead to unnecessary drama or tension. If there are strained relationships with family members, friends, or acquaintances, it's acceptable to prioritize the harmony of the event over potential disruptions.

  3. Personal Comfort and Well-Being: Your wedding day is about celebrating love and commitment. If the presence of a particular person could compromise your comfort or well-being, it's entirely reasonable to exclude them from the guest list. This is especially true if the individual has a history of causing distress or negativity.

  4. Differing Values or Beliefs: Couples often share similar values and beliefs, and the wedding ceremony is a reflection of those shared ideals. If someone's presence would contradict the values of the ceremony or make the couple uncomfortable, it's acceptable to make the difficult decision to exclude them.

  5. Protecting the Sanctity of the Day: Weddings are deeply personal and symbolic events. Couples have the right to protect the sanctity of their day by surrounding themselves with people who genuinely support and celebrate their union. This may involve excluding individuals who may not share in the joy of the occasion.

While excluding someone from your wedding may be a tough decision, it's important to remember that it's ultimately your day. The reasons behind such decisions are often rooted in practicality, personal well-being, and the desire to create a positive and harmonious atmosphere. Communicating these reasons with empathy and sensitivity can help mitigate any potential fallout and allow the couple to focus on the celebration of their love. In the end, prioritizing your happiness and the success of your wedding day is perfectly acceptable.

Embracing Rain on Your Wedding Day: A Love Story Unfolds in Every Drop

Your wedding day is often envisioned as a perfect, sunny affair, filled with blue skies and warm rays of sunlight. However, sometimes Mother Nature has other plans, and rain decides to make an appearance. While the initial reaction may be one of disappointment, there's something truly magical about a wedding day drenched in rain. In this blog post, we'll explore the unexpected beauty and romance that can unfold when the heavens open up on your special day.

  1. A Symbol of Fresh Beginnings: Rain is often seen as a symbol of renewal and fresh beginnings. Just as rain nourishes the earth, it can symbolize the nourishment of your new life together. Embrace the idea that rain on your wedding day is a blessing, washing away any doubts and setting the stage for a clean slate as you embark on your journey as a married couple.

  2. Romance in Every Drop: Picture this: you and your partner dancing under an umbrella, surrounded by the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops. The intimacy and romance that rain brings can create a unique and unforgettable atmosphere. The sound of raindrops becomes a melodic backdrop to your vows, making the moment even more enchanting.

  3. Stunning Photo Opportunities: Rain can transform your wedding photos into works of art. The reflections on wet surfaces, the glistening rain-soaked greenery, and the soft, diffused light can add a touch of magic to your pictures. A skilled photographer will seize the opportunity to capture candid moments that convey the genuine joy and love shared between you and your partner.

  4. A Community United: When the weather takes an unexpected turn, it often brings people together. Guests rallying to help each other with umbrellas, the shared laughter as everyone tries to stay dry, and the sense of camaraderie in facing the elements can create a sense of unity among your loved ones. Rain on your wedding day becomes a shared experience that bonds everyone present.

  5. Flexibility and Adaptability: One of the most valuable lessons a marriage can teach is the ability to adapt and find joy in unexpected circumstances. A rainy wedding day provides an early opportunity to practice this skill. Embrace the spontaneity, go with the flow, and remember that the most important thing is the love you and your partner share, regardless of the weather.

In the end, rain on your wedding day is not a hindrance; it's an invitation to create a unique and memorable celebration. It's a reminder that life, like the weather, is unpredictable, and the ability to find beauty and joy in the unexpected is what will make your journey together truly special. So, if raindrops fall as you say "I do," dance with your partner, laugh with your guests, and savor the magic that only a rainy wedding day can bring. After all, a love story is beautiful in every weather.

Sunset Beach Sessions.....a MUST before the year ends!

Summer Sunset Shoots on the Beaches of New England—Book Yours Today

Sunsets are undoubtedly the loveliest time of the day. There's something so romantic about the sun dipping below the horizon and painting everything in warm golden tones. And just when you think it can't get better than that, imagine yourself on a beach, with the pink candy floss sky and the soothing sound of the waves behind you. New England beaches and oceanside landscape is the perfect setting not just for romantic couple photos (including engagement and wedding shoots) but also for kids and family photoshoots. Make sure to book a shoot before the end of September to get beautiful memories documented that will last for a lifetime!

There are several reasons why sunset shoots on the beach are so wonderful. It's no secret that pictures taken during the golden hour create some of the most beautiful results. The natural light and the warm golden glow translate beautifully on camera resulting in stunning images. Many couples and families opt for an evening shoot for this very reason.

Whether it's just you and your loved one or the whole family together, being on the beach can also make you more at ease in front of the camera. There's something about the beach that is very relaxing yet fun, allowing you to feel comfortable and just be yourself. And then there's the playful side, too, of course—dip your toes in the water or go all in, embracing the waves. Whether you're just walking, holding your partner, or finding yourself waist-deep in the water, it'll add a lovely depth and vibrance to the final shot. Sunset beach shoots also give you the opportunity to dress in whatever makes you feel most comfortable (and there's definitely something about being barefoot, too).

It's no secret that New England has an abundance of beautiful beaches. While most face eastward, there are definitely spots where you can catch the sun setting in the water— and I know right where to go. But even if you opt for a different location, working with the right photographer will guarantee that no matter where the sun is setting, your beach sunset shots will look impeccable.

If you've always wanted to book a sunset photoshoot on a New England beach, now's the time—make sure to book your session before the end of September! I am offering an all inclusive package with your session, editing and digital downloads with printing rights. Your sunset pictures will be a great addition to your family photo album and will look fantastic printed in a bigger size, as well. Don't let another year go by without making this dream come true!

love in the mountains |mary & tom
1.jpg

Nestled among the white mountains at Owl’s Nest Resort in New Hampshire Mary and Tom said their I Do’s surrounded by family and friends. Dried flowers were imported to craft a unique floral display and the bride herself made her bouquet. Choosing to do a first look enabled the couple to have their ceremony during golden hour. The reception was held under a tent with games and a fireplace nearby for guests to enjoy. The food was an amazing array of five star options.

WHY DOING A FIRST LOOK IS A FABULOUS IDEA

If you are even considering doing a first look, I have to say it's the best idea ever. There is a reason this bridal trend has been around so long, so let's find out if it might be for you.

Romantic souls will gravitate towards the first look idea. First looks are so beautiful with tears, laughter and sweet embraces. Having time for yourselves before you walk down the aisle will be one of those romantic moments of the day (and maybe your life).

Some couples worry a first look will take away from the specialness of walking down the aisle, but actually, it doesn't. The excitement of seeing each other as the ceremony begins is just as joyful even if you saw each other an hour earlier.

The first look relieves some of the nervousness you might have before the ceremony. You will feel more relaxed if you have had time together earlier, which is wonderful for people who get stressed out easily. Anxiety is released and transformed into pure excitement and happiness.

Also, there's more time for couple photos before the ceremony, a major plus if you are having a winter wedding or getting married at sunset. As a photographer, I also love capturing images in areas of the venue that might not be accessible after the ceremony.

Doing a first look is a time-efficient plan in case of bad weather. You will be thankful to have sweet couple photos taken during the first look if a storm rolls in after the ceremony. Surprisingly it hasn't happened many times during my photography career, but it's always possible.

As if you needed another great reason to do a first look, I have a final one. If some of the couple photos are taken in advance, we need less time for photos after the ceremony. That means you can join your guests and celebrate at the cocktail hour. We all can say cheers to that!

If you are a very traditional couple, a first look might not suit your timeline. But for many couples, it is a highlight of the wedding with many advantages, including stunning images.
